Matt Schwartz is a partner in DLA Piper's corporate and finance practice group. Matt’s practice spans the spectrum of corporate and finance transactions. He has represented lenders and companies, both nationally and abroad, in connection with more than $10 billion of senior, mezzanine and convertible loan transactions. In addition, Matt has represented venture funds and a wide range of public and private companies in connection with venture capital financings, mergers and acquisitions, general contract negotiations and other business and finance matters. Matt has co-authored several articles, including "Intellectual Property as Collateral: What's Being Left on the Table?" The Daily Transcript, Banking and Finance Quarterly Report, April 21, 2005, and "12 Steps to Preparing Your Company for its Banking Needs," The Daily Transcript, May 11, 2004. He is currently working on an article dealing with structuring international loan transactions.

Matt is active in the community and a number of nonprofit endeavors. He currently serves on the board of directors of the John Brockington Foundation, an organization dedicated to assisting people who suffer from kidney disease and raising awareness for organ donation. Among a number of his pro bono cases, he has successfully represented veterans in appealing the denial of Social Security disability benefits. During the 2008 elections, Matt was an organizer of the “Election Protection” campaign, ensuring access to the polls and alerting polling officials to issues and irregularities. Matt is also involved with Best Buddies, an organization headed by Maria and Anthony Shriver, dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with intellectual disabilities by providing opportunities for one-on-one friendships and integrated employment. Matt serves on the host committee for a 100-mile bike ride down the Big Sur to raise money for this incredible organization.
