Major Cases
Since 2000, I have obtained more than $250 million in verdicts and settlements for my clients with more than 60 awards exceeding $1 million each. I obtained a $106 million verdict in the civil component of the so-called “American Beauty Murder,” involving San Diego toxicologist Kristin Rossum. I have obtained verdicts of $10.8 million and $7.5 million against Pizza Hut and Starbucks, respectively. Earlier this year, I obtained an $8.3 million verdict against DePuy Orthopedics in the first trial in the country involving the recalled ASR XL hip device. More than 10,000 cases are pending nationally. I soon will be trying the first “bellwether” case, involving DonJoy’s “cold therapy” devices. I represent hundreds of plaintiffs injured by defective drugs and medical devices in various coordinated actions, and am co-lead counsel in California litigation involving Granuflo, a dialysis product. I represent the surviving family members of CHP Officer Mark Saylor and his family in their lawsuit against Bob Baker Lexus, and more than a dozen former football players in their lawsuits against the NFL and related entities. I represent former City Councilman Michael Zucchet in his lawsuit against “snitch” Michael Galardi.
Professional Background
After graduating from Yale Law School in 1993, I spent a year clerking for the Hon. Marilyn L. Huff of the U.S. District Court, Southern District of California. I then spent close to four years as a litigator at Latham and Watkins’ Los Angeles Office. In 1997, I accepted a position as an Assistant U.S. attorney in the Southern District of California, where I tried human trafficking, narcotics and corruption cases on behalf of the United States. I returned to private practice in 2000, and have since represented exclusively plaintiffs in civil litigation. In September 2005, I founded the Gomez Law Firm, where I represent ordinary people and businesses in high-stakes litigation. This year, that firm changed its name to Gomez Iagmin Trial Attorneys.
