Major Cases
I have been involved in numerous high-profile matters throughout my career, including the notable three-month trial of one of the alleged members of the kidnapping murder crew known as “Los Palillos.” A grand jury indicted 17 men suspected of being members of a kidnapping and death squad who were accused of murdering at least nine people from 2004 to 2007, two of whom were dissolved in barrels of acid.
I recently obtained trial victories, including the acquittals in two separate trials of individuals accused of serious and violent felonies whom were facing sentences in excess of 60 and 20 years, respectively, in prison. I also recently obtained acquittals in two other trials for defendants accused of child molestation. If convicted, the defendants would have spent the rest of their lives in prison.
Professional Background
After graduating law school from the University of San Francisco, I was hired as a research attorney for the Criminal Division of the Santa Clara County Superior Court. As a research attorney, I performed extensive research in all areas of criminal law. Thereafter, I began my career as a Deputy Public Defender where I represented indigent clients charged with a range of misdemeanor and felony offenses.
I then joined an AV-rated criminal defense firm in San Francisco as a senior trial attorney, where I worked under the tutelage of nationally renowned criminal defense attorney, James Farragher Campbell.
In 2005, I relocated to San Diego and opened the Law Office of Jose Garza Badillo.

Partner liability has emerged as one of the most important issues for law firms and is increasingly the crucial factor that determines building selection and the structure of other economic lease terms. Arguments over liability complicate — even kill — otherwise easy lease transactions. Law firm decision-makers contemplating a relocation or renewal would be well-served to understand and carefully consider how they intend to deal with partner liability from the outset.
