Demian serves as chairman of the board of the American Heart Association, San Diego Division, and in 2012 acted as a distinguished speaker for the American Heart Association’s 2012 San Diego Heart Beach Ball. In 2009, Demian’s daughter, Maren, now 5, was born with a heart defect. Her life was saved by a team of doctors using medical advances made possible in large part through the AHA. Of course, we all will be touched by heart disease and stroke. Heart disease is the No. 1 cause of death in the United States. Every 3 seconds, an American has a heart attack or stroke. Over the last 30 years, an obesity epidemic has taken hold that threatens the health of our children and is on track to completely ruin our already overburdened medical system. The AHA is essential to putting heart disease and stroke in its place, to both save lives and perhaps, more importantly, to improve the quality of lives.
A product of the public school system in Encinitas, Demian is a graduate of San Dieguito High School, and now resides in Encinitas, with his wife, Jessica, and three children, Oliver (8), Ethan (6), and Maren (5). While attending Harvard University, Demian was the captain of the men’s basketball team. In his spare time, Demian plays basketball and soccer, and just completed his first half-marathon.
