Major Cases
I launched Rábago Business & Tax Law APC in November 2009. With a passion for educating individuals and small businesses about taxes, initially I handled both tax controversy (audits, appeals, tax court litigation, and collections – liens, levies, etc.) and tax planning matters. Today, I work exclusively with attorneys. Primarily, I advise solos and small firms on business formation, tax planning, and tax and legal compliance. I also advise new law firm partners on the tax consequences of their promotions and new roles. In addition, I provide consulting services to assist other attorneys with the tax aspects of their clients' matters.
Professional Background
Prior to law school, I held various professional roles including fundraising for two professional theatre companies, sales management for an international retail chain, and recruiting and corporate training for a Fortune 100 financial services company. After completing my LL.M. at Northwestern, I was recruited by PricewaterhouseCoopers to serve as an international tax consultant. After returning to San Diego, I decided to hang a shingle. In addition to practicing law, I am an adjunct professor of federal income tax at California Western and faculty for Solo Practice University where I developed and teach "Introduction to Taxes for the Solo/Small Firm Attorney."
Professional Affiliations
I am a member of the American Bar Association and actively involved with the section of taxation where I serve as vice chair of the Young Lawyers Forum and co-chair of the Annual Law Student Tax Challenge, in addition to recently being named a Nolan Fellow. I am active with the San Diego County Bar Association and was elected last fall to serve on the board of directors of the new lawyer division. I am also a member of the Lawyers Club of San Diego and look forward to becoming more involved with this organization in the coming year.
Personal Affiliations
I am a dedicated member of the San Diego community. With the Legal Aid Society of San Diego, I defend low-income taxpayers in controversies with the IRS and state tax authorities. This year, as a volunteer for the American Bar Association’s Adopt-A-Base Program, I trained military personnel to prepare taxes for their fellow service members at Naval Base San Diego and Naval Medical Center San Diego - Balboa Hospital. In addition, I am president of the House Corporation for the Chi Omega Fraternity at the University of California, San Diego and a board member emeritus of the East Village Association.
