A trial attorney at The Gomez Law Firm, Theresa Bowen devotes herself to plaintiff’s personal injury cases, focusing on catastrophic personal injury and product liability. Her goal is to bring justice to ordinary people through hard work, preparation and a commitment to the ethics of the legal profession.
Since 2009, Bowen has worked on Saylor v. Toyota et al. to bring justice to the surviving family members of California Highway Patrol Officer Mark Saylor, Cleofe Lastrella Saylor, Mahala Saylor and Chris Lastrella. Mark, Cleofe, Mahala and Chris were tragically killed when their Lexus unexpectedly accelerated out of control in San Diego County in 2009. Their story has gained international attention and has been the focus of Congressional testimony in Washington, D.C. Bowen has played an active role in investigating the product liability case against Toyota and the negligence case against Bob Baker Lexus.
Since starting with The Gomez Law Firm in 2008, Bowen has been fortunate to have been mentored by Trial Lawyer of the Year Award winners John Gomez and Robert Hamparyan, and Outstanding Trial Lawyer Award winner James Iagmin.
Under their guidance and mentorship, Bowen has achieved numerous milestones in her first two years of practice. Shortly after being sworn in to the California bar, Bowen cross-examined a witness in a high-value real estate broker fraud/elder abuse case, Laframboise v. Krebs et al. Bowen has taken and defended approximately 75 depositions, and has also written and opposed numerous motions, including summary judgment and discovery motions. Bowen has been given tremendous autonomy in handling all facets of case preparation. She has assisted in recovering more than $20 million for the firm’s clients.
Previously, Bowen worked as a print and broadcast writer for the Associated Press and as a television news reporter in Baltimore and San Diego. A 1999 graduate of the University of Virginia and a 2008 cum laude graduate of the University of Baltimore School of Law, Bowen is the only person in her immediate family to have graduated from college.
Bowen is a member of the State Bar of California, Consumer Attorneys of San Diego, Consumer Attorneys of California, the San Diego County Bar Association, American Association for Justice, Attorneys Information Exchange Group and the American Bar Association.
Bowen’s commitment to helping those in need includes volunteering for the Special Olympics, Autism Speaks, St. Vincent De Paul Village and the National Latino Peace Officers Association.
