Michael Kinslow

Zalkin Law Firm PC

Young Attorneys 2010: 3-5 years

Michael Kinslow is a trial lawyer.  Inspired by Robert Kennedy’s call to dedicate ourselves “to tame the savageness of man and make gentle the life of this world,” Kinslow represents people who have been physically, emotionally and psychologically harmed by others. Since becoming admitted to the practice of law in California in 2005, his principal area of work is representing survivors of childhood sexual abuse.

This work has taken Kinslow into courtrooms throughout the state and across the nation, helping to stem the damage caused to his clients and society by the epidemic of childhood sexual abuse. These efforts include both the litigation of individual cases and active participation in complex coordinated proceedings against large corporations who provided pedophiles access to children.

In addition to childhood sexual abuse cases, he has represented survivors of product defects, brain injury and medical malpractice, and families faced with a wrongful death. On a pro bono basis, Kinslow represents disabled dependants of active duty and retired military personnel in administrative appeals before the U.S. Department of Defense. These cases involve an appeal of the denial of life-sustaining medical and home nursing care benefits through the DOD’s health care system known as TRICARE. He has testified as a legal expert before the Defense Subcommittee of the U.S. House of Representatives’ Appropriations Committee regarding needed reforms within the TRICARE system involving the manner in which disabled individuals are provided or denied health care. While in law school he assembled and coordinated a coalition of advocates that successfully reformed TRICARE’s treatment of disabled individuals, resulting in the passing of positive legislative and regulatory changes.

Kinslow is a cum laude graduate of The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law, where he was a member of The Journal of Contemporary Health Law and Policy, Moot Court and the National Trial Team. He was a regional champion and national semi-finalist in American Bar Association competitions. At graduation he was awarded the Alumni Society Award, in recognition of "Academic Excellence, Participation in Extra-Curricular and Co-Curricular Activities, and Service to the Law School, University and Community."

Currently, he is an associate with the Zalkin Law Firm PC. He is a member of The Honorable William B. Enright American Inn of Court, and a member of the National Partnership to End Interpersonal Violence Across the Lifespan.
