Matthew J. Riopelle is an associate in Foley & Lardner LLP’s San Diego office and a member of the bankruptcy and business reorganizations and real estate practices.
Riopelle focuses his practice on representation of clients in complex business bankruptcy and reorganization matters, including representing Chapter 11 debtors, creditors’ committees, and unsecured and secured creditors. In addition to Chapter 11 proceedings, Riopelle advises clients regarding out of court restructurings, including assignments for the benefit of creditors and negotiations with creditors and other constituencies. Riopelle also frequently represents buyers and lenders in Chapter 11 cases.
Riopelle is a member of the board of directors of the San Diego Bankruptcy Forum. He also co-authored the following articles: “Giving Teeth to a Repeat-Filing Statute,” <I>Law 360</I> (April 7, 2011), and “Implications of In re Marshall,” <I>Law 360</I> (Nov. 15, 2010). He has presented seminars on “The Rights of Landlords in Tenant Bankruptcies” and “Bankruptcy and Intellectual Property.”
Riopelle graduated from Georgetown University Law Center (J.D., 2008), where he was a Law Center Merit Scholarship recipient. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Puget Sound (summa cum laude, 2005). He was elected to membership in the Mortar Board Senior Honor Society and received a Skinner Business Leadership Program Scholarship.
