Brett Schreiber's practice includes construction defect, personal injury, medical malpractice and condemnation law. He pursued his undergraduate studies at Florida State University, graduating cum laude with degrees in creative writing and religion.
Schreiber is a young lawyer who has begun to distinguish himself as one of the next generation of legal leaders. In 2009, he earned recognition as one of The Daily Transcript’s “Top Attorneys,” perhaps the youngest person to do so. He is also the youngest officer of the board of directors of the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego, and chairs their community outreach and events committees. Under his leadership, CASD has organized teach-ins at low-income schools, putting on mock trials to show students how the legal system works. He has begun a unique clothing drive where members of the legal profession can donate used business attire to Father Joe's Community Re-Entry Program, to be used by the less fortunate to wear for job interviews.
He's proudest of his most creative project – collecting gently-used office supplies from law firms, such as legal pads, pens, pencils, folders and more -- for redistribution to school children in the Philippines through the Philippine Educational Charities.
Recently named "An Attorney on the Rise" by the Thomas Jefferson School of Law, Schreiber also finds time to lecture student groups on the personal rewards of the legal profession.
Schreiber moved to San Diego from South Florida to pursue his law degree at Thomas Jefferson School of Law, where he graduated cum laude. While in law school, he not only managed to gain invaluable real-world experience, he also found time to be a prominent student leader as well as a member and competitor of the Thomas Jefferson Moot Court team.
Schreiber’s legal background spans the halls of the legislature to the courthouse steps. As a legislative intern in the Florida Senate and later as a lobbyist, he first learned the ins and outs of the legal process from the legislative perspective. Whether it was monitoring committee meetings, honing his negotiating skills outside the capitol rotunda, or advising municipal and corporate clients about the impact of pending legislation, he put to use every aspect of the legal process – experience that would prove to be invaluable as a trial lawyer.
Schreiber brings a diverse knowledge and experience to his practice. He clerked for several years with a South Florida law firm that specializes in criminal defense, civil litigation and family law. He then worked as a volunteer intern in the major crimes division of the San Diego Public Defenders office, in order to gain experience in criminal defense law. Before joining Thorsnes Bartolotta McGuire, he clerked with a small appellate practice, where he was tasked with filing appeals to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and writs of certiorari to the United States Supreme Court.
Schreiber feels right at home with a balance of complex litigation, personal injury and condemnation cases. He is admitted to practice in all California courts and the Southern and Central Districts of the United States District Court of California, as well as the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the San Diego Bar Association, Consumer Attorneys of San Diego, Consumer Attorneys of California and the American Association of Justice.
He and his wife Shayna, a clinical psychologist, and his baby boy Ethan live in Ocean Beach. They enjoy surfing, yoga, tennis and hiking together with their golden retriever, Maui.
This is the culmination of a peer nominating process that asked San Diego County lawyers to name the best young attorneys in San Diego County who are: Hard-Working & Detail-Oriented, Knowledgeable & Enthusiastic, Ethical & Professional, and Committed to Furthering the Interests of Justice in Society.
