Melissa Deleon is a first-year associate at the Law Office of Philip Dyson. Her practice focuses primarily on personal injury, as well as employment litigation and business litigation. In her first year of practice, Deleon managed several personal injury cases, including obtaining settlement in a wrongful death case arising from the death of her client’s teenage son, her most rewarding work to date.
Deleon is a native San Diegan and graduate of San Diego State University and California Western School of Law. While in law school, she volunteered at the Legal Aid Society, mentored first-year law students, and was a volunteer mediator in Small Claims Court and the Girls Rehabilitation Facility.
Deleon was admitted to the State Bar of California in December 2010 and is an
active member of the legal community. She is an associate of the American Inn of Court, Hon. Louis M. Welsh chapter. She also serves on the board of directors and as membership chair for the Filipino American Lawyers of San Diego. This year, Deleon has assisted the organization in commencing and co-directing Community Law School, a monthly program that provides legal education to members of the community about relevant and applicable topics, such as small claims court and immigration law.
Deleon’s other professional affiliations include membership in the Lawyers Club of San Diego, Consumer Attorneys of San Diego, San Diego County Bar Association, Ethnic Relations and Diversity Committee of the SDCBA and the Personal Injury Mentoring Circle through the New Lawyer Division of the SDCBA. She is also a Pan Asian Lawyers of San Diego Volunteer mentor to law students.
Deleon believes serving her community is as important as serving her clients. In addition to Community Law School, this year Deleon cleaned and rebuilt homes as part of the annual community event, “Project Facelift,” volunteered at the SDCBA Beach Cleanup, manned the SDCBA water station during the Rock and Roll Marathon, participated with the SDCBA New Lawyer Division in the National Walk to Save Homeless Youth, and ran a charity race for the Hoyt Foundation, which benefits youth and athletes with disabilities.
This is the culmination of a peer nominating process that asked San Diego County lawyers to name the best young attorneys in San Diego County who are: Hard-Working & Detail-Oriented, Knowledgeable & Enthusiastic, Ethical & Professional, and Committed to Furthering the Interests of Justice in Society.
