Ashley Kerins has been practicing law for the past two years. She currently works at RJS Law, where she focuses on federal and state tax controversies. She is the second chair on multiple criminal tax cases for filing false tax returns, aiding and abetting the filing of false tax returns, and structuring transactions to evade reporting requirements. She is the lead associate on numerous IRS small business and individual income tax audits, EDD worker classification audits, and SBOE sales and use tax audits. Kerins also drafts and responds to innocent spouse claims and consults with clients on their tax reporting obligations.
Prior to joining RJS Law, Kerins was a legal extern for the Honorable Marilyn L. Huff and a summer associate with the law firm Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher.
Kerins has completed all of her education in San Diego. In 2007, she received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, San Diego at Revelle College. She earned her Juris Doctor from the University of San Diego School of Law in 2011. She graduated cum laude and was admitted to the Order of the Coif. She was also a member of the San Diego International Law Journal. Kerins went back to the University of San Diego School of Law to obtain her LL.M. in taxation. She completed her LL.M in 2013 while working full-time at RJS Law.
Kerins is very active in the community. During law school, she volunteered her time to several causes. She worked with the Domestic Violence and Unlawful Detainer Clinic as well as the Federal Income Tax Clinic. She is currently the co-chair of the Young Tax Lawyers division of San Diego County Bar Association, where she helps organize presentations on various aspects of tax law. She is a board member of the Rwandan Orphans Project, a 501(c)(3) charity that provides housing and school to more than 100 boys in Kigali, Rwanda, who have been affected by genocide, disease or abandonment.
