Michael Leonard is the founding shareholder of San Diego Corporate Law. He focuses his practice on representing privately held businesses in transactional corporate, securities and intellectual property law matters. Most notably, he provides counsel on entity selection and formation, pre-incorporation and buy-sell agreements, private placements of equity and debt securities, governance, mergers and acquisitions, trademark, copyright, trade secret protection, and general business contracts and counseling.
While he works with clients across many industries, prior to his career in law he managed the production and operations of high-tech businesses, which allows him to leverage his first-hand device and software technology experience to provide valuable insight to his science, technology, and research and development-based clients. In addition to the technology sector, he is a real estate investor and leverages this knowledge to assist clients raising capital for real estate acquisition through private placements.
When he is not providing counsel to his clients, he serves as a member of the board of directors and as corporate secretary of the La Jolla Golden Triangle Regional Chamber of Commerce. He also volunteers as a counselor, adviser, and mentor to aspiring entrepreneurs and business owners for SCORE, a nonprofit association and resource partner of the U.S. Small Business Administration, offering business counseling at no fee as a community service.
He was awarded a baccalaureate degree in physics with minors in biology, chemistry, and mathematics from the University of San Diego in 1998. He received his juris doctor and a Certificate in Law, Technology, and Communications from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in 2008. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the San Diego County Bar Association, the State Bar of California, and the U.S. District Court for the District of Southern California.
This is the culmination of a peer nominating process that asked San Diego County lawyers to name the best young attorneys in San Diego County who are: Hard-Working & Detail-Oriented, Knowledgeable & Enthusiastic, Ethical & Professional, and Committed to Furthering the Interests of Justice in Society.
