Scott Salmu was the first in his family to be born in the United States. His parents, Nate and Lamia Salmu, were immigrants who worked long hours to ensure he would get an education and obtain a promising career.
Salmu is principal of Salmu Law Firm APLC, an established and accomplished criminal defense and tort litigation firm that has obtained favorable outcomes, including several dismissals and large settlements, for clients.
In a recent case, Salmu filed a motion correcting a sentencing error, which allowed his client to be released from prison in half the time. He also helped release a wrongfully accused client from custody, who was facing a life sentence, by obtaining a second not-guilty verdict.
During law school and after passing the California State Bar, Salmu was employed as a Legal Claims Advisor at San Diego Superior Court, in a program that offers litigants assistance in filing civil claims. He spent one year as a law clerk with the San Diego Public Defenders Office, and second-chaired several criminal trials. He received recognition awards for working above and beyond the call of duty and for providing exemplary service.
Salmu has been a member of the American Bar Association, San Diego County Bar Association and Consumer Attorneys of San Diego. He has participated in the American Inns of Courts Trial Program.
Salmu speaks Arabic and Aramaic fluently. He provides pro bono legal services for Iraqi refuges across San Diego County. He has assisted with fundraising for Sheriff Bill Gore, Bonnie Dumanis and Judge Robert Amador, and continues to assist the San Diego Rescue Mission and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital with fundraising.
He enjoys traveling and spending time with his wife, Hadeel, and their two children, Brandon, 4, and Brianna, 2.
This is the culmination of a peer nominating process that asked San Diego County lawyers to name the best young attorneys in San Diego County who are: Hard-Working & Detail-Oriented, Knowledgeable & Enthusiastic, Ethical & Professional, and Committed to Furthering the Interests of Justice in Society.
