A native of Ohio, Melissa E. Laugle graduated from Shawnee State University in Ohio with B.A.s in both history and international relations. While at Shawnee State, she was appointed by then Ohio Governor Bob Taft to the university’s Board of Trustees, where she served a two-year term.
Laugle then obtained her law degree from the University of Cincinnati where she interned with the Ohio Innocence Project at the Rosenthal Institute of Justice. While there, she worked to obtain the exonerations of wrongfully convicted inmates. She also served as a judicial extern for the Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas and was a member of the Potter Stewart American Inn of Court.
Following her relocation to the San Diego area and her admission to the California Bar, Laugle assisted the lower-income segment of the El Cajon community with unlawful detainers, civil restraining orders, and elder abuse cases.
Laugle has been with Heggeness Sweet Simington & Patrico since May of 2011, where her practice is focused on insurance defense in workers' compensation cases. She has successfully defended numerous complex cases, including a variety of workers' compensation claims filed by former professional athletes. Previously, she has been recognized as a finalist in the San Diego Business Journal's "Top 25 under 25".
A resident of the San Diego area since 2010, Laugle currently resides in Chula Vista and is a member of the San Diego Bar Association.
