David Gibbs is the owner and founder of the Law Offices of David B. Gibbs in Encinitas and downtown San Diego. His practice focuses on estate planning and business planning. He enjoys proactively planning for his clients, leading to their success and peace of mind.
Gibbs is a San Diego native, born in San Diego and raised in North County. He ventured north to earn his Bachelor of Arts degree in geology from the University of California Berkeley in 2002. While at Berkeley, Gibbs was on the California Ski Team and upon graduation he moved to North Lake Tahoe to pursue a career as a professional skier.
Gibbs returned to San Diego in 2009 to attend Thomas Jefferson School of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctorate magna cum laude. He graduated and passed the bar in 2012. While attending Thomas Jefferson School of Law, Gibbs was a dean’s scholar, a fellow of the Thomas Jefferson Intellectual Property Fellowship, and he received a certificate from the Center for Law and Intellectual Property. He was also active in the SBA, Intellectual Property Law Association and the Environmental Law Society.
Gibbs serves as a member of the Thomas Jefferson School of Law Alumni Association board of directors and on the board of directors for the Greater San Diego Business Association. Gibbs is committed to dedicating a portion of his law practice to community service and access to justice. He has worked at the free legal clinics sponsored by the Thomas Jefferson School of Law Center for Solo Practitioners and has helped educate many people about their rights when it comes to estate planning, powers of attorney and business law. He also volunteers his time at other nonprofits, including the San Diego Food Bank, the University of California Alumni Association and the Hillcrest Center. Gibbs was recently named as one of San Diego’s top attorneys in the San Diego Business Journal’s Best of the Bar 2014.
Gibbs also likes to have fun. When not working, you can find him somewhere outdoors. He enjoys skiing, surfing, running, mountain biking and sailing. Gibbs recently joined the Coronado Yacht Club.
Gibbs is a member of the San Diego County Bar Association, the North County Bar Association, Probate Attorneys of San Diego, the State Bar of California, and is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of California.
