Many lawyers talk about their ability to look at a matter from the client’s perspective, but Fernando Landa actually walks the walk. That’s because as a former general counsel, he’s been a client himself. A rising star in the San Diego legal community, he has been recognized for his quick intellect and ability to provide business owners with efficient solutions to complex issues where law and operations meet.
Landa specializes in the acquisition, development, financing, leasing and disposition of commercial real estate assets. Focusing on transactional real estate matters, Landa has represented a variety of landlords and lenders in the financing, leasing, purchase and sale of hotels, office, industrial, retail and mixed-use developments throughout the country.
Landa possesses an expertise in distressed real estate workouts and the sale of commercial real estate assets, handling the sale of nearly $1 billion dollars of distressed real estate assets over the last five years. Representative transactions include the liquidation in receivership of Ever-Read Properties’ holdings, a portfolio of more than 30 gas stations and convenience stores in New Mexico, and the receivership sale of a Class A mixed-use regional mall and office building in Huntington Beach.
Landa is the 2014 recipient of the Morning Star Award, which was presented by the Real Property Law Section of the State Bar of California. In 2012, he represented Trigild Incorporated in a 207,000-square-foot office lease transaction that received the National Association of Office and Industrial Properties REXIE (Real Estate Excellence in the Inland Empire) Award for Office Transaction of the Year. In 2011, Landa was named one of San Diego’s Top Corporate Counsels by The Daily Transcript and was selected by SDMetro Magazine as one of San Diego’s top 40 community leaders under the age of 40. In 2010, he was named Associate of the Year by the San Diego Building Industry Association.
Landa graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with Bachelor of Arts degrees in history and political science. He earned a Master of Science in real estate from the University of San Diego and a J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law.
Landa is a member of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties, the San Diego Building Industry Association and the California Receivers' Forum.
