Tim Johnson is an attorney at Ogletree Deakins, where he represents companies and management in a wide range of employment disputes throughout California. Johnson’s practice covers all aspects of employment litigation, but he specializes in defending clients in complex class and representative actions, including claims brought under California’s Private Attorneys General Act.
In the past year, Johnson was instrumental in successfully resolving five class actions where the exposure ranged from $2 million to $4 million. Three of the cases settled on an individual basis and the class allegations were dismissed outright. The other two cases settled on a classwide basis for less than $200,000 combined. These cases were resolved in a cost-efficient manner for the clients by using unique and innovative procedural strategies.
In addition to working for his clients, Johnson lectures frequently on California employment law topics. He has also written multiple employment law articles that have been published, including one this year in The Daily Transcript titled, “Iskanian and the Private Attorneys General Act.”
Johnson is a member of the California and Utah state bars, and the San Diego County Bar Association. He also serves on the board for the San Diego J. Reuben Clark Law Society and he is actively involved in his church, where he works with and teaches youths.
Johnson graduated, with distinction, from the University of Nebraska College of Law and received a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University. While in law school, he worked as a judicial clerk at the Lancaster District Court.
Johnson lives in Carlsbad. In his free time, he loves spending time with his wife, Katie, and playing with their two young sons, Zac and Weston.
This is the culmination of a peer nominating process that asked San Diego County lawyers to name the best young attorneys in San Diego County who are: Hard-Working & Detail-Oriented, Knowledgeable & Enthusiastic, Ethical & Professional, and Committed to Furthering the Interests of Justice in Society.
