Jose Garcia has been an associate with Christensen & Spath LLP since 2010 where he concentrates his practice representing public agencies in municipal, affordable housing and real estate law, as well as land use issues. He regularly advises public agency clients on governance and operational matters, purchasing and public works issues, construction issues, affordable housing, environmental issues, and commercial and residential leasing.
Garcia specializes in litigation and transactional real estate matters. His transactional practice includes negotiating and drafting loan documents, land use restrictions, commercial and residential leases, and other real estate documents.
Garcia has successfully represented clients in a variety of litigation matters ranging from tort litigation, business and real estate litigation and defending administrative decisions of public agencies. He represented the San Diego Housing Commission in a judicial foreclosure of the Hotel Churchill involving the enforcement of the city’s SRO hotel regulations, which is now being renovated to provide affordable housing units. Further, Garcia represented a public agency involving a dispute concerning a disposition and development agreement for the development of an entire city block. Garcia also has extensive experience in the area of creditor rights and remedies in bankruptcy proceedings representing banking institutions, loan servicers and other creditors.
Garcia received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of San Diego School of Law. While in law school, Garcia interned in USD’s entrepreneurship clinic and the economic crimes division of the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office. Garcia obtained his Bachelors of Science degree in business administration from San Diego State University. Garcia is a member of San Diego County Bar Association.
In his free time, Garcia enjoys spending time with his wife and newly born son. He also enjoys surfing and being outdoors any chance he can get.
