National ranking of California ports by cargo volume

The Port of San Diego ranked 123rd in the United States and seventh in California with 1,137,054 short tons of total trade in 2009. Total foreign trade in San Diego exceeded total domestic trade 956,637 short tons to 180,417 short tons.

Compared to 1,891,343 short tons of trade in 2008, the Port of San Diego saw a 39.9% decline in cargo volume.

The Port of Long Beach had the highest volume of trade in California and ranked fourth in the nation with 72,500,221 short tons of cargo volume in 2009.
