400 volunteers expected to beautify Colina Del Sol Park

Related Special Reports

As an ongoing effort to help improve and beautify the city of San Diego, more than 400 Rock Church volunteers will help beautify the Colina Del Sol Park and paint the Recreation Center in City Heights on Saturday, June 23.

Due to economic hardship, the park has not been able to paint the Rec Center for 10 years.

This "Rock Your City" project is the Rock Church's second of the quarterly community beautification events this year. The park is in San Diego Councilmember Marti Emerald’s District (Council District 7) and has been a cornerstone to the City Heights community since 1962, offering many free facilities to the city of San Diego.

Marti shares, "It's great to see the Rock Church volunteers bring hope to our community. Thanks to the Rock’s generosity children and families in Colina Park will have a safer and nicer experience in this important community gathering place."

Volunteers will be cleaning, landscaping and painting the park from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. They will focus on landscaping the areas around the park's bridge, playground, pool parking area and east side of the park, near 54th Street. Additionally, volunteers will paint the recreation center and the bleachers around the fields. Volunteers will need to bring their own tools, and the Rock Church encourages the community to donate landscaping tools to the project as well.

This beautification project is part of the Rock Church's efforts to improve areas in the city of San Diego. Earlier this year, volunteers worked together to beautify the Jackie Robinson YMCA in San Diego. Volunteers cleaned and landscaped around the facility and the Rock Church hosted an Easter Egg Hunt. Ministries were present at the event, making their services available to the community. The Rock will host two other events later this year that will benefit the community of San Diego. The most important event for the Rock Church is the Community Outreach event "Toys for Joy," which has helped more than 35,000 children and their families since it began.
