Jerry Gold, Ph.D., has been named San Diego County's Mental Health Person of the Year by a diverse committee of mental health providers and consumers. As administrator of the behavioral health clinical care line for Scripps Health, Dr. Gold oversees behavioral health services throughout the system.

The Mental Health Person of the Year award was established to recognize those who have made a dramatic impact on mental health within our community, and Dr. Gold joins an esteemed group of previous winners of this honor, including prominent clinicians, administrators, advocates and judges.

"It is an honor to be recognized by the Mental Health Recognition Team," said Dr. Gold. "We are a community of caregivers all committed to our patients and helping them regain control of their lives as well as reconnect with their families and community."

Dr. Gold was nominated as San Diego's Mental Health Person of the Year largely because of his role in the establishment of the pioneering A-Visions program at Scripps Mercy – a vocational training and modified support employment program for people with mental illness. In addition to his work at Scripps, Dr. Gold has been an advocate for those with mental illness throughout the community, and he has fought to erase the stigma surrounding mental illness.
