Congratulations to Jack White, owner of Ballast Point Brewing Company, for being named 2012 California Small Business Person of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration.
At Wells Fargo, we have the privilege of helping local small businesses like Ballast Point Brewing Company thrive by providing the access to the capital they need to stay competitive, grow and add jobs. We are also honored to be recognized by the U.S. Small Business Administration as this year’s Small Business Lender of the Year, and we thank our loyal customers for the opportunity to work with them and be part of their successes.
We understand small business and we know San Diego. For the past 20-plus years, California Business Banking has been working hard to say “yes” to as many loans as we can, while we continue to apply our disciplined credit and underwriting principles.
We encourage businesses to come and talk to one of our 170 local business bankers to find out how their business can take advantage of the opportunities today’s economy presents. As the leading SBA lender in San Diego for the third consecutive year, we are lending. Just last year, we financed $53.7 million through 108 loans to San Diego County small business owners and remain the SBA’s top lender through July 2012.
As the president of Wells Fargo’s Southern California Business Banking Division, which serves businesses with annual revenue of $2 to $20 million, we’re seeing many positive signs. The number of business owners applying for credit is up, loan applications are stronger and as a result, we’re approving more loans for small businesses than a year ago. I am proud of the role we play in helping our local economies get back on their feet by making capital accessible to more small businesses and remain fervently committed to doing all we can in the future.
Our work goes beyond lending. In addition to our commitment to serving San Diego businesses, Wells Fargo is committed to serving our local communities. In 2011, we donated $2.5 million to 280 San Diego County schools and nonprofits. Our team members are also committed to the communities in which they live and work. Last year, they volunteered 17,000 hours at various local nonprofits and schools — that’s more than 46 hours every day of the year.
On behalf of Wells Fargo’s 3,100 team members who work and live in San Diego, we are honored to be recognized as the Small Business Lender of the Year.
