In October both the NRC and the CPUC expect to meet to discuss problems at San Onofre. Whatever the result it is clear that the real victims are the ratepayers of both SCE and SDG&E and that neither will be paying for poor-decision-making by SCE or inadequate oversight by the NRC and the CPUC. Promises that steam generators will be reliable, that marine life will be protected, that highly radioactive waste will leave California's vulnerable coastline have all been broken. It's time to rethink dependence on aging reactors on this side of the Pacific Rim.
