Construction Agenda: SeaWorld seeks development permits

The middle of November brings little work on the construction front, although municipalities are meeting.

On Wednesday, the California Coastal Commission is slated to hear a request from SeaWorld to demolish a 5,000-square-foot freshwater aquarium building, and to remodel and convert a 4,700-square-foot gift shop into 2,300 square feet of retail stores and a 1,952-square-foot culinary services center.

On Thursday, the San Diego Planning Commission is scheduled to hear nine requests, including one for a site development permit for environmentally sensitive lands to replace the four-lane West Mission Bay Bridge with two new parallel bridge structures, each containing three lanes and a Class I bike lane.

The work would also include improvements to West Mission Bay Drive, which would become a dedicated on-ramp for eastbound SeaWorld Drive, and other improvements as necessary to facilitate traffic transitioning on and off Interstate 8.

The Carlsbad City Council has canceled its regularly scheduled meeting for the next two weeks and will next convene on Nov. 27.
