LAKEWOOD, Calif. (AP) -- A councilman for the Southern California city of Lakewood for 37 years has died.
The city announced that Larry Van Nostran, who served as the city's mayor nine times, died Saturday at his home from lung disease. He was 79.
Lakewood Mayor Diane DuBois said in a statement that Van Nostran was dedicated to keeping the city safe, ensuring its continuing prosperity and preserving its quality of life.
He was survived by his wife, Charlene, and two sons.
Lakewood is a city of about 80,000 in southern Los Angeles County.
