Roberts leads in District 3 race

Three rounds into the post-Election Day counting of provisional and absentee ballots, Dave Roberts continues to build upon his lead over Steve Danon in the District 3 Board of Supervisors race.

The Registrar of Voters updated the running vote totals Monday evening, accounting for an additional 65,000 votes countywide from Friday’s totals.

With the countywide remainder of ballots to be counted now at 260,000, and Roberts’ lead increasing with each day of counting so far, the prospects for a Danon comeback are dwindling.

With more updates expected this week, Roberts, the deputy mayor of Solana Beach, has a lead in the race of 2,641 votes over Danon, who is the former chief of staff to Rep. Brian Bilbray. Roberts now holds 50.85 percent of the vote, up from a 50.77 percent share at the end of Friday’s count.
