CRESTLINE, Calif. (AP) -- San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies responding to a house fire near the mountain community of Crestline say they shot and killed a man who refused to raise his hands.
Sgt. John Gaffney says the shooting occurred Monday at about 10 a.m. in the Valley of Enchantment area west of Crestline in the San Bernardino Mountains.
While authorities were on their way to the fire, they received information there were weapons and possibly explosives in the house.
Upon arriving, deputies went inside to clear the residence and a man left through the back door.
Deputies say when they ordered him to stop and raise his hands, he refused, continued toward them and reached into his waistband.
The deputies opened fire, killing the man.
The incident is under investigation.
