Cameron Says He’s ‘Very Sad’ at Vote to Reject Women Bishops

Nov. 21 (Bloomberg) -- U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron said he was “very sad” that the Church of England rejected a plan to let women become bishops and said it needed to be more in touch with society.

“I’m a strong supporter of women bishops and I’m sad at the way the vote went yesterday,” Cameron told lawmakers in the House of Commons in London today. “It’s important for the Church of England to be a modern church in touch with society as it is today and this was a key step they needed to take.”

“The time is right for women bishops, the time was right many years ago, they need to get on with it and get with the program,” he said.
