Rebuilding after Hurricane Sandy

How one San Diego business owner is helping victims of the ‘superstorm’

The Rockaway Beach and Breezy Point area of New York, home of James Brennan, CEO of Enlightened Hospitality Group, suffered massive damage from Hurricane Sandy. The storm carved out a path of disaster in Rockaway Beach, with fires and floods damaging homes and businesses in several sections. In Breezy Point alone, more than 111 homes were destroyed.

In response, the company has done the following to help those reeling after the hurricane and to rebuild the community:

*Raised more than $800,000 for Rockaway Relief by donating profits from the company’s restaurants (Searsucker, Burlap, Gingham, Gabardine, Herringbone), Stingaree nightclub, individual donors and Brennan’s personal donations.

*Purchased approximately 100 generators, more than 11,000 gallons of fuel, meals, warm clothes and other necessities for hundreds of families who have lost everything.

*Brennan plans to repair about 140 homes in the Rockaway Beach/Breezy Point area in four phases with teams he has hired from the local community. To date, the company has successfully cleaned out more than 30 homes, with approximately 20 more in the process.

*Rockaway Relief needs at least another $1 million in funding to get through the work Enlightened Hospitality Group has already started.
