Leukemia & Lymphoma Society brings in record amount at Light the Night Walk

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, an organization that funds lifesaving blood cancer research and provides free information and support services, has announced that it raised a record $600,000 at its 14th annual Light the Night Walk last month.

More than 4,000 individuals and 300 teams walked in Light the Night, a two-mile journey that culminates with participants joining together in twilight to hold illuminated balloons ó white for survivors, red for supporters and gold to remember those lost to cancer.

"This year's campaign was by far the most successful walk to date," said Jeff Wheeler, senior campaign manager for the Light the Night Walk, in a release. "Not only did we have the opportunity to host it at Petco Park, but we had a record number of walkers and teams involved. In addition, we surpassed out fundraising goal, and we're still receiving donations."

Donation opportunities are still available at lightthenight.org/sd.
