Man arrested in killing in Concord homeless camp

CONCORD, Calif. (AP) -- Contra Costa County authorities have arrested a 38-year-old homeless man in the strangling death of another man at a homeless camp in Concord.

Sheriff's officials say deputies arrested James Riley on suspicion of homicide Thursday morning after a fight left 47-year-old Jerald Nagle dead at a homeless encampment near Interstate 680.

Sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee says deputies were called to the homeless camp after the fight broke out Wednesday night. Emergency crews failed to revive Nagle, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lee says it's unclear why the two transients were fighting.

The Contra Costa Times (http://bit.ly/11OvQRc) reports Riley is being held at the county jail in Martinez on $1 million bail.
