Sempra Energy (NYSE: SRE), the $10 billion energy services holding company that owns San Diego Gas & Electric, has appointed James Lambright, most recently the chief financial officer and chief operating officer for Sapphire Energy, its senior vice president of corporate development.
Lambright will assume the role, which is a newly created position at Sempra, effective Jan. 2, the company said in a release. His responsibilities will include directing Sempra’s investments, strategic partnerships and acquisitions. He will report to Sempra Energy President Mark Snell.
Prior to working at Sapphire, Lambright’s resume includes time as CEO of the U.S. Export-Import Bank — an independent government corporation based in Washington, D.C., and vice president of private equity for Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette Inc., an investment banking firm that was acquired by Credit Suisse.
Lambright earned a bachelor’s degree in linguistics from Stanford University and a law degree from Harvard Law School.
While at the U.S. Export Bank, Lambright also served as chief investment officer for the U.S. Treasury Department’s $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program. In that capacity, he chaired the investment committee responsible for committing the TARP funds.
