LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Cold weather has ushered winter into Southern and Central California with temperatures below freezing in the deserts and mountains.
Los Angeles has a low of 45 Friday morning but Lancaster dipped to 16 degrees and Palmdale had a low of 20.
Frost advisories are in effect until 9 a.m. for Los Angeles County valleys and valley and coastal areas of Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties.
The first day of winter will see highs in the 60s. It's also the start of the holiday travel period. Between now and Jan. 2, more than 2 million passengers are expected to pass through Los Angeles International Airport.
Meanwhile, the region could see some rain Friday night through the weekend. Christmas Day will be fair followed by more rain Wednesday.
