WHITTIER, Calif. (AP) -- Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies have shot and killed a suspected car thief who barricaded himself in a suburban garage for roughly six hours.
The sheriff's department says the incident started around 12:30 a.m. Sunday when Whitter police officers tried to stop a stolen car and were shot at.
Nearby deputies responded to help Whittier police with the search for the suspects, which led to a garage. At least one shot was fired at deputies from the garage.
Authorities evacuated neighboring homes as deputies surrounded the garage. Around 4:30 a.m., a woman exited and surrendered.
Shortly before 7 a.m., an armed man came out of the garage and was fatally shot by deputies.
The incident will be investigated by the district attorney's office.
