The following "Local Notes" appeared in The Daily Transcript's Jan. 3, 1997 issue:

A new area code will be introduced in parts of Central and Southern California that now use the 805 area code. Phone companies are renewing how to graphically branch the 805 off into the new area code, as well as the actual three-digit number, will be announced later this year.

KFSD-FM formally announced Thursday that it will be changing its format away from classical, but won't say what the new format will be. Meanwhile the classical music is being shifted to what is now KOWF-FM at 92.1, a much weaker station, on the deal.

Petco Animal Supplies Inc. has acquired a Minneapolis-based pet supply chain, bringing the number of stores owned by Petco to 325 in 21 states and the District of Columbia.

The Price REIT Inc. (NYSE: RET) announced effective Jan. 1, 1997, the consolidation into the company of assets, operations and liabilities of its affiliate, K&F Development Co.
