DELANO, Calif. (AP) -- Authorities have released the name of a pilot who was killed when her helicopter crashed while she worked on trying to keep crops from freezing.
The Kern County Coroner's Office says 62-year-old Karen Johnson, of Camarillo, died after her helicopter went down around 6:20 a.m. Wednesday.
The helicopter crashed in a vineyard outside of Delano.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor says Johnson was returning to Delano Airport when her helicopter disappeared.
It was among two helicopters that were conducting aerial frost control on a local field.
The cause of the crash is under investigation
