CHICO, Calif. (AP) -- A big-rig crash that knocked down power lines on State Route 99 has shut down the highway near Chico for nearly eight hours.
There are no injuries.
The California Department of Transportation says the southbound tractor-trailer hauling onions slammed into 50 feet of guardrail and took out a concrete head rail on a ditch crossing at Nelson Road about 90 miles north of Sacramento.
Pacific Gas & Electric power lines were also taken down in the late Thursday crash.
Caltrans says a detour around the crash site is adding 25 minutes to commute times.
The highway is expected to reopen by 11 a.m. Friday.
