Ex-Lynwood school official gets prison term

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- A former Lynwood school official who misappropriated $700,000 in district money has been sentenced to eight years in state prison.

Los Angeles County prosecutors say William Agopian of Santa Ana was sentenced Friday and ordered to repay the money.

Agopian is the former chief business officer for the Lynwood Unified School District. He acknowledged diverting money from a bank account that was created to fund a sister-city trip to Mexico for Lynwood students.

Agopian pleaded guilty in November to misappropriation of public funds and filing a false tax return.
