NECA San Diego installs 2013 board officers

For just the ninth time in the association’s 71-year history, the National Electrical Contractors Association San Diego bestowed upon a member its Founder’s Award, honoring outgoing governor Tom Hedges at the association’s installation of officers ceremony Saturday.

“It’s only given to a person who … had there not been a NECA in place to represent the interest of electrical contractors, would have started one him or herself,” Andy Berg, executive director of NECA San Diego, said of the presentation to Hedges.

In the shape of a lighthouse, the physical symbolism behind the award represents its recipient’s ability to light the way through obstacles and lead a group toward a destination, Berg said.

In late November, NECA San Diego elected Earl Restine of Fuller Electric to replace Hedges, owner of Hedges Electric, as board governor. Restine, formerly the chapter’s vice president, was officially installed into his new role at the ceremony, which was held at the Hilton Torrey Pines.

Tim McBride of Southern Contracting Co. was also installed into his second year as NECA San Diego’s president. The vice presidential role formerly held by Restine is now held by Tim Dudek of Saturn Electric, and Bob Davies, of Davies Electric, was installed as the association’s new treasurer.

Attendance at this year’s event surpassed that of any year prior, with 315 guests reserving space, Berg said.

Honors were delivered to the board during the ceremony by a number of elected officials, including proclamations from state Sens. Mark Wyland and Joel Anderson, and Assemblymember Rocky Chavez. San Diego Unified School District Board Member Kevin Beiser, alongside fellow San Diego Unified Board members Richard Barrera and Marne Foster, honored the NECA San Diego board with a plaque.

And on behalf of Rep. Susan Davis, one of her assistants delivered a congressional proclamation in Hedges’ honor.
