Speaker line-up taking shape for SD Women's Week

The Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Centers and Sharp Health Plan have joined with the San Diego North Chamber of Commerce to sponsor the fourth annual San Diego Women's Week on March 11 to 15.

The four-day event -- featuring local New York Times bestselling author and founder of The Chopra Foundation Deepak Chopra as the keynote speaker -- is aimed both at improving women's health and inspiring them to greater success in business.

"What better way to support women, who are typically called upon to manage the health of their family members, than to give them a week to gain inspiration and recharge their batteries," said Stacey Hrountas, CEO of Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Centers.

The event will include an evening tour of Sharp Rees-Stealy Sorrento Mesa, with information on wellness programs.

Corporate interest in preventive health and wellness programs has been on the rise lately because of increasing medical costs. Insurers say well-structured wellness programs can help workers avoid health problems further down the road.

Besides Chopra -- who also founded the Chopra Center for Wellbeing in Carlsbad -- the event will feature talks by Dr. Eunice Sanchez-Mata, head of the San Diego Heart Foundation; pro golfer Tina Mickelson, spokeswoman at Callaway Golf and sister of golfing star Phil Mickelson; Colleen Hensley, one of the first women to fly high-performance supersonic jets for the Air Force; and Tanya Brown, who will discuss her comeback from a mental breakdown after the murder of her sister, Nicole Brown Simpson.

More information is available on the event's website, www.sdwomensweek.com.
