OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- Oakland police say an eight-year-old girl is hospitalized after she was hit by gunfire in what's believed to be a gang-related drive-by shooting.
Police say the girl was standing with some other people in front of the home of relatives when she was shot in the leg when at least two people in a passing car opened fire.
The girl _ who has not been named _ is expected to survive her injuries.
The incident comes after a series of shootings in Oakland, including the wounding of two police officers in separate incidents last week.
Oakland police are planning a news conference at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday to discuss the recent shootings.
