Nearly a dozen Chula Vista businesses were awarded recently for efforts to improve energy efficiency, water conservation, waste reduction, and pollution prevention through their participation in the city’s Green Business Challenge.
The city launched the initiative in 2012, challenging local businesses to make the improvements with the help of a “sustainability coach” provided by the city. The challenge drew 50 participating companies, and 11 of them were recognized as outstanding finishers.
Specific improvements deployed by the businesses included the installation of occupancy sensors and auto shut-off faucets, a switch to rechargeable batteries, and the development of recycling policies.
The award winning businesses included Allied Waste Services, Bonita Point 76, EastLake Tavern & Bowl, El Primero Boutique Hotel, Living Coast Discovery Center, Profil Institute for Clinical Research, Spirit Printing Services Inc., Zytech LED US, ARYA Cleaners, Algert Engineering and Walmart.
The city of Chula Vista continues to offer its CLEAN Business program, available at no out-of-pocket cost and providing free marketing and advertising to businesses working to improve their “green” performance.
