Major LA street shut down after road buckles

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The California Highway Patrol says a major street in the Baldwin Hills neighborhood has been shut down in both directions after it buckled horizontally across several lanes.

CHP Officer Francisco Villalobos tells KNBC-TV (http://bit.ly/XR98Tp ) that a nearly 2-mile stretch of La Cienega Boulevard has been closed, and crews are likely to be working on the roadway well into Wednesday morning.

It is not clear what caused the street to buckle.

The area is south of Interstate 10 about eight miles southwest of downtown Los Angeles.
