ADELANTO, Calif. (AP) -- The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department said one of its patrol cars hit an 8-year-old boy as it moved slowly in front of an elementary school. The boy was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
A sheriff's statement says 28-year-old Nessia Fountain stopped her car in front of Adelanto Elementary School on Wednesday morning and her 8-year-old son exited into the street, and ran behind the car into a lane of traffic.
Sheriff's Sgt. Wendell Anderson was driving a patrol car at about 5 mph, according to witnesses. He ran into the boy with the left front corner of the car, and the boy was knocked to the ground.
The boy, whose name was not released, was taken to Victor Valley Hospital. His injuries were described only as minor.
