JMC Group Inc. said an administrative hearing involving its James Mitchell & Co. subsidiary has begun in Florida to determine if employees violated state laws in selling annuities. JMC believes it is in compliance with state and federal laws.
Signal Pharmaceuticals Inc. says it has raised $6.1 million from its first round of venture capital financing. The effort was funded by Accel Partners, Venrock Associates and Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers. Harry Hixson, former president of Amegen, also is leading investor.
Judge Harry Elias has been elected presiding judge of the North County Municipal Court, following Presiding Judge Marguerite Wagner's appointment to Superior Court. Elias served as the assistant presiding judge since Jan. 1.
