SANDAG pitches for last-minute entries in iCommute challenge

Just days remain in the nomination period for the San Diego Association of Governments’ iCommute Diamond Awards, and SANDAG is making a last call for entries before the Feb. 28 deadline.

The awards recognize individuals and organizations promoting and adopting sustainable commute choices, such as taking transit, carpooling and teleworking. SANDAG, the region’s transportation planning agency, announced at the onset of the nomination period that the 2013 version of the program was re-worked to include new categories for organization awards, including multiple awards in some categories based on the number of employees.

The results of the program, SANDAG said in its late pitch, are reduced greenhouse gas emissions and improved mobility on the roadways. The winners are promised by SANDAG extensive public recognition of their accomplishments.

Some well-known winners in previous years include Barona Valley Ranch Resort & Casino, Caltrans, the Hotel del Coronado and Kyocera Wireless Corp.

The deadline for this year’s program is 4 p.m. on Feb 28. Self-nominations are allowed, and there is no cost to enter. Nominations can be made on the award program website at 511sd.com/iCommute.
