LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Authorities say a Los Angeles day-care operator charged with molesting three children at the Boyle Heights facility was investigated but never arrested on similar allegations in 2008 and 2009.
Prosecutors charged 45-year-old Enrique Ramos this week with three counts of committing lewd acts on a child. He pleaded not guilty on Monday and remains in jail with bail set at $1.3 million.
The Los Angeles Times (http://lat.ms/XhoC5v ) says the California Department of Social Services was aware of a previous molestation allegation.
But the agency allowed his Cano & Ramos Family Child Care to stay open because the allegations couldn't be corroborated.
A 5-year-old girl attending the day-care center told her mother this month that Ramos touched her genitals.
Police re-examined the previous cases and gathered enough evidence to arrest Ramos.
