Klinedinst

From his office overlooking the Broadway corridor, John Klinedinst has a direct bead on State Street, where he opened his first office as a solo practitioner in 1983. Flash-forward 30 years to today and Klinedinst is CEO of a diversified corporate litigation and transactional firm with 60 attorneys in four offices across California.

"It's amazing to consider how far we've come since John hung out his shingle 30 years ago today," said Arthur S. Moreau, shareholder who works with John as chief operating officer of Klinedinst PC.

"In addition to striving to be the best lawyer in town, John always made the extra effort to understand his clients' business goals. We are so much more than legal counselors. We are truly business partners. He also understood the importance of running a law firm like a business. With that mindset and his business background, John has guided us and our clients through both the calmest seas and stormiest weather."

Moreau is managing shareholder for the San Diego office, where he oversees a bustling team of diverse attorneys handling every facet of litigation, including professional liability, complex litigation, employment, environmental and real estate. The firm has always been quick to spot trends and new opportunities, not only in San Diego but also across the state.

"Our firm -- and especially our real estate litigation team -- was right there at the beginning for litigating high-rise office buildings and condominiums in contract disputes and construction defects, so we've really developed an expertise there," Moreau said.

In recent years, the firm has also bolstered its transactional capabilities with two experienced securities and mergers-and-acquisitions attorneys. It also made significant strides in the complex-litigation arena, and introduced new services, like its Co-Counsel Practice Group to assist solo practitioners with their most complex cases.

"In business, the only constant is change, and we have always embraced change as a positive," said Moreau, a former naval aviator who was all too familiar with adapting to change when landing multimillion-dollar jets on aircraft carriers. Moreau, like many of the attorneys at the firm, also has a business background, with an MBA and law degree from Pepperdine University and experience with a land development company in the 1990s.

"The legal industry continues to change, just as the business community. We've continued to grow at a measured pace with an eye to what's in the best interests of the firm in the long term. Our goal is to continue that growth, which will help us best serve our clients and help us continue being an integral part of the San Diego legal and business community."
