Padres hire new president/CEO

The San Diego Padres have named Mike Dee president and CEO of the ballclub, replacing Tom Garfinkel, who resigned on July 9.

Dee had been the Miami Dolphins and Sun Life Stadium CEO since 2009. Prior to that, he was with the Padres from 1995-2002, joining the team as director of corporate development before moving up to senior vice president of business affairs in 2001.

Dee also was the executive vice president of business affairs for the Boston Red Sox in 2002 before being promoted to chief operating officer in 2004.

Garfinkel joined the Padres in April 2009 from the Arizona Diamondbacks, where he served as executive vice president and chief operating officer under CEO Jeff Moorad.

When Moorad left the Diamondbacks to head an ownership group attempting to purchase the Padres, Garfinkel followed. Moorad stepped down as Padres CEO last year after he was unable to get final approval to purchase the team from John Moores.
