SAN DIEGO (AP) -- San Diego's acting mayor says he's asked his office to enforce the city's zoning laws preventing medical marijuana dispensaries, reversing a hands-off order from recently resigned Mayor Bob Filner.
Acting Mayor Todd Gloria made the announcement at his first weekly media briefing on Thursday.
Filner, who resigned last month in the face of sexual harassment allegations, told police and prosecutors to back off code enforcement shortly after taking office in January.
Filner said the order was an interim move while he sought a more lax ordinance that would allow dispensaries with limits on their location, but he was unable to get an ordinance through the City Council before his resignation.
Gloria says he's seeking his own new medical pot ordinance, but he can't allow current dispensaries to ignore the law.
